Fayette, Ga
134,000 SF expansion of a patient tower and emergency department with a $57 Million budget

BDR managed a five-floor vertical expansion and renovation of the 134,000 SF emergency department and patient tower on the Piedmont Fayette Hospital campus. The project comprised of the following program elements:

• 24,000 SF First Floor Emergency Department & building expansion
• 24,000 SF Second Floor 30 private inpatient beds
• 14,000 SF of shelled support services space on the ground floor (14,000 SF finished space)
• 221 total beds
• 59 examination rooms
• Three new trauma rooms
•12 additional observation beds and a fast track area for low acuity patients
• Two additional traction elevators

The expansion streamlined patient flow through an exam pod layout, which created a more adaptable space reducing the distance between supplies, patients, imaging, and other units. It led to the addition of 76 full-time employees at completion. Piedmont Fayette was named Large Hospital of the Year by the Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals in 2016. Since then, Healthgrades has consistently ranked it in the top 1% of America’s Best Hospitals in the nation.
