Construction of a three-story, 90,000 SF facility with a $32.2 Million budget

This three-story facility is approximately 90,000 SF and contains teaching labs for biology, chemistry, physics, IT, and exercise science. It also houses a Nursing Teaching Center with patient simulation and patient care labs, faculty offices, two dean suites, and various student study rooms.

From initial design through the approval of the Guaranteed Maximum Price, BDR worked closely with multiple stakeholders, including the college’s administration and State of Georgia stakeholders to ensure maximum value. BDR saved $2 million dollars managing the $30.2 million project and obtained LEED Silver certification. As a result of the savings, GGC realized an additional 5% of programmed square footage while remaining within budget and in compliance with GGC’s design standards.

The project was constructed just north of the new, one-story laboratory classroom building and is connected to the existing building by conditioned corridors. The exterior of the building complements the existing architecture on GGC’s quadrangle through the utilization of brick, metal panels, curtain wall, and punched window openings.

The Allied Health Building provides new classroom, laboratory, and office space, and brings a new nursing degree program to campus, playing a pivotal increasing enrollment from 9,400 to more than 11,500 students.

Because of the successful completion of the project and the excellent working relationship with Georgia Gwinnett College, BDR was also asked to manage the $3M FF&E procurement scope.
