$4 Million facility with staff office space and parking for 74 busses and 53 cars
One goal of the Woodward Academy Master Plan was to locate all school functions within a range of the main campus, to prevent remote locations for staff. This goal caused a subsequent relocation of Woodward’s growing fleet of busses and maintenance staff to a new location. The Student Transportation Building was constructed on the site of a former strip shopping center and required extensive site work and remediation.
Due to a very tight budget and foundation complexities and constraints left behind from the shopping center, the design approach was largely determined by creative solutions. BDR led the team to determine the most cost-effective method of improving the bearing capacity of poor subgrade conditions. The new facility provides access to a growing transportation staff along with parking for 74 busses and 53 cars. Finishing touches included Woodward bus branding - the red stripe - throughout the facility.
Woodward deploys and returns 73 busses every school day. Understanding turn ratios, weight support, and commercial way planning is critical to maintaining efficient flow.
